Council Update: Budget Amendment; Fingerprint Software; South Braeswood Repair

Council Member Noriega tagged (a delay by one week action) the Fiscal Year 2012- 2017 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) in an effort to receive more information from the administration.

Council approved and authorized a final payment of $5.2 to Reytec Construction Resources, Inc. for the reconstruction of South Braeswood from Kirby to Stella Link in District K. Improvements included: a new four lane divided, concrete boulevard with a curb and gutter design, sidewalks and underground utilities.

The Houston Police Department received Council approval to purchase the 3M Cogent fingerprint software to be used by the patrol and investigative units in the field and at HPD facilities. This purchase will improve upon HPD’s current Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Council Members submitted amendments to the FY 2013 budget and action will take place at next week’s regular council meeting. Council Member Noriega submitted the following amendment to the administration:

“The IT Department shall evaluate methods and the cost/savings to the City’s general fund to provide electronic delivery of Agenda and Committee documents. Electronic access must be available to Council Members and staff 24 hours a day and at all City Council and Committee meetings. The Director of IT shall provide his findings and recommendations to the TTI
Committee and the Administration no later than November 16, 2012.”

City Council confirmed the appointments and reappointments of several individuals to various Boards and Commissions this week. Among the confirmations were the appointment of Shelli Mims Lindley and the reappointment of Adriana Tamez to the Houston Center for Literacy.

The reappointments of Giti Zarinkelk and John Odis Cobb to the Coastal Water Authority’s Board of Directors were confirmed by City Council Members.

The following individuals were confirmed as Associate Judges of Municipal Courts, Judge Joshua H. Brockman, Judge Roni M. Most and Judge Berta Alicia Mejia. Clyde R. Leuchtag was confirmed as a part-time Municipal Court Adjudication Hearing Officer and Megan A. McLellan was confirmed as Municipal Court Judge for a two-year term.

Kenneth J. Bohan and Eileen Subinsky were confirmed to serve on the Planning Commission until March 31, 2012.

METRO –Board of Directors Special Meeting
The public is invited to provide comments relating to the agency’s General Mobility Program (GMP) and the upoming referendum at next week’s special Board of Directors meeting. Each speaker will have three minutes to give their input and can register to speak the day of the meeting at the tables on the first floor of Metro headquarters.

Project GRAD Houston 2012 College Institutes Tour
